  • NEW BEGINNINGS ~ Ushering in the New Year through Art & Writing

Eastside Jewish Commons 2420 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland, OR, United States

We invite you to join us for an afternoon in creative community as we pass through the High Holidays and enter deeper into the autumn season. As we begin this new cycle, we will consider these questions through engaging in a reflective art-making and creative writing process: What threads do you want to pick up from last year and weave into this new year? What are you ready to let go of to make space for new growth? What do you want to cultivate in this year ahead? We will explore these themes of renewal and regeneration through creating mixed media art on circular canvases, incorporating painting, drawing, collage, and creative writing into our finished pieces. Our completed work can serve as a touchstone as we navigate the year ahead. No previous writing or art experience necessary, all are welcome. All art materials will be provided.

  • RENEWAL ~ Celebrating a Return to the Light

Family Heirloom Arts Studio SE Portland, OR

Join us on February 1st for a day of celebration, community, and creativity as we honor the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. This retreat is inspired by Imbolc, a Celtic festival that begins on the evening of February 1, 2025. Imbolc symbolizes the return of the light, the beginning of spring, and the growth of new life. Candles are often lit to honor the return of the sun. Entering into this seasonal shift invites us to cleanse and purify, while planting seeds of intentions for the year ahead. Through poetry and art, we will explore the return of the light within us, honoring this time of renewal, healing, and new beginnings through the creative process. Combining writing, painting, drawing, and collage, we will create personal lanterns to guide us as we move forward into the year and the coming spring. This soulful gathering offers us the chance to deeply nourish and refresh ourselves in the supportive and inspiring company of other women.

  • RENEWAL ~ Poetry, Art & Community

Studio of the Imagination SE Portland, OR

As we move from the darkest time of the year towards the return of the light, this weekly retreat series offers you the chance to step away from the demands of daily life and to connect more deeply with yourself and your own process of renewal. Through our art and writing exploration we will consider what combination of elements supports us to restore, grow, and thrive as we build resilience during these tumultuous times. With a focus on the concept “better together,” we will delve into themes of community, kinship, companionship, and the role of compassion and kindness in forging strong and lasting connections. We will also explore the concept of “synergy” and the different ways that multiple elements come together to create something greater than the sum of their individual parts. We witness this in nature every spring as the combination of rain, sun, seeds, and pollinators contribute to the first spring blossoms. Our weekly projects will utilize a variety of mixed media techniques including painting, drawing, collage, and sculpture. Featured projects for this series include designing a set of companion cards, sculpting your own spirit creature with natural materials, and creating poetry weathergrams. In the Studio of the Imagination, we offer you the opportunity to kindle your creative spark and cultivate new ways of enriching your imagination while nourishing yourself in the supportive, uplifting company of other women.
