Spring

Together, Mixed Media by Lisa Kagan

There is an eagerness in the garden
as if the flowers are raising their hands
all of the blossoms have something to say
chatter of the birds, butterfly wings,
and the wind
stir up a symphonic wonder
alliums are in full bloom
whimsical puffs of purple like small balloons
spring up in the meditation garden
the rose we transplanted this fall that was tucked behind the Yew tree
seems relieved to now grow in full sun where it belongs
its pink petals begin to reveal themselves
a gentle thank-you
honeysuckle also survived its transplant last year
this year it grows in abundant glory
getting ready to shower us with its sweet scent
spring offers new beginnings
yet this season is also a bit of an ode
to the spirit of survival.

Jumping In

Spring invites us to jump in and pursue those projects and activities that have been germinating, but need that extra push and burst of energy to help move them into action. This spring has been an abundant time here at Family Heirloom Arts, with the start of exciting new client projects and upcoming workshops and retreats. Contact us if you are ready to bring your personal history project to fruition, and need a little help getting started. Join us for mask making at the Oregon Coast this summer, and a weekend art and writing retreat for women coming up this fall (details included below).

About the Retreat: Beyond the self we present to the world and the many roles we play in our life, dwells a larger self. How easy it can be to lose touch with this essential, natural self. How vital for our own well-being and for the good of the world that we find opportunities to return to the self that dwells within. Join us for a soulful and inspiring weekend in the beauty of the natural world in community with other women. Through writing and mask making, utilizing painting, drawing, collage, print making and collecting materials from the magnificent Oregon forest, you’ll have the chance to honor your sense of self and the many forms that you may take on during this period in your life. The weekend also offers you a chance to deeply nourish yourself with delicious meals, a quiet, beautiful retreat setting and the supportive, uplifting company of other women. No previous art or writing experience necessary.
